Plain-English distinction

  • Form 4506-T is a taxpayer transcript request path for tax return, tax account, wage and income, record of account, and verification of nonfiling transcripts.
  • Form 4506-C is tied to the IRS Income Verification Express Service, where a taxpayer consents to a third party receiving transcript information.
  • The IRS also offers online and mail transcript paths for many taxpayers, so a paper form is not always the first route to check.

Why this is not a draft-packet form yet

Transcript requests involve tax records, third-party delivery, identity verification, signatures, lender or participant information, and privacy expectations. A mistake can send sensitive records to the wrong place or create a rejected request.

For now, Tax Paperwork should help users understand the form family and official IRS routes. It should not collect transcript facts, upload transcript documents, or generate a final transcript-request packet.

Current status

Education-only. Do not send transcripts, wage records, lender requests, signed 4506 forms, SSNs, EINs, addresses, or IRS account screenshots to Tax Paperwork support.
